It operates on the basis of encouraging investment from capital markets and where possible co-investing to share the risk. The Seed Fund aims invest in or co-invest with other venture capital resources in the early commercialisation or start-up phase  activities in an effort to take novel and inventive South African technologies to the market. This is based on the belief that the development of novel and inventive South African technological ideas will contribute to future business growth that would be to the benefit of all South Africans.
