SA Bio Plan
The Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) in partnership with Emory University of Atlanta, Georgia USA is pleased to announce the commencement of the SA Bio Plan 2010.
The SA Bio Plan 2010 is a (BPC) Biotechnology Plan Competition, with an Executive Education Program component, for the Bio-Entrepreneur. Participants in this program will receive world class education, training and mentorship commencing with a Biotech Entrepreneurship Workshop open to all interested parties. Aspiring entrepreneurs may then choose to enter the Bio (Business) Plan Competition from which semi-finalists will be selected. Faculty from the Goizueta Business School of Emory University along with South African experts will present a modular Executive Education Program to which only the members of the selected teams are invited to participate. The SA Bio (Business) Plan Competition seeks to encourage the development of biotechnology businesses in South Africa. Participating teams will each work closely with a team of mentors to fully develop a strategy and a business plan that will be evaluated by an international panel of experts.
As adjudicated by the selected panel of expert, the winning team will receive a cash prize at the end of the Competition.
Who Should Apply?
We seek applicants (individuals/teams) with a great business idea, an idea that is innovative and/or extends social benefits to humanity.
We seek applicants (individuals/teams) with great technology and an obvious commercial opportunity. The opportunity should be innovative and/or extend social benefits to humanity.
The obvious applicants will be graduates, post graduates, bio-entrepreneurs and academic researchers in the broader Biosciences arena, Engineering graduates interested in the interdisciplinary facet of Biotechnology, Technology Transfer Professionals and other individuals with an interest in Entrepreneurship, Technology Transfer, Intellectual Property management, and owners of biotechnology start ups.
Participation
Participation in the Preliminary Workshop is open to all individuals who are interested and who register on-line in order to attend. The workshop, which will take place at the beginning on the 11th and 12th of March 2010 and, will cover the fundamentals of Intellectual Property, Venture Capital, Life Sciences Entrepreneurship and Business Plan Writing and Development. Closing date for registration to attend the workshop is the 1st of March 2010.
To be selected to participate in the SA Bio Plan Competition you will be required to submit an opportunity proposal of the technology you want to develop into a plan towards commercialisation thereof.
